Adewole Temilolu: Debunking healthy living 'myths' endangering people's lives
But there is a little twist, though...She is a graduate of Accounting, despite her love for health matters. This is another story for another day. As a certified health coach mum, she is the Founder of Natures Delight Products, and is sharpening her expertise by currently pursuing a course in Naturopathy. Just like you, I had wondered what Naturopathy is. A quick Google search indicates Naturopathy, also known as Naturopathic medicine, is a system of alternative healthcare focusing on self-healing, prevention and natural therapies to treat the whole person. Interesting! If you ask me.
In this chat, she shares the reason for setting up her health organisation. Going deeper, she talked about myths about healthy living, amongst others. Letst I forget, she also mentioned that ignorance of....( should I spill it out?). No need to serve you food without telling you the ingredients and how it was cooked (Lol). You should hear every detail from the horse's mouth.
So we dive in as Adewole Temilolu Adebusola takes us on a journey to impact, relevance and excellence. Read excerpts below:
Can you tell us about yourself beyond the titles—who is Adewole Temilolu Olubusola?
I am a mum, a certified health coach and a current student of Naturopathy. I studied accounting, but I have been passionate about Natural health, hence my transition. I do this work through my health company, Nature's Fitness and Health
I am also the founder of Nature's Delight Products, where we produce healthier alternatives to help busy professionals get access to these foods and drinks without stress.
I am a lover and follower of God.
How did your journey into healthy living begin?
Okay...like I mentioned earlier, I have been passionate about health right from my young age. In fact, I always got an "A" in my health science subject back then, in secondary school.
My mum had a chemist store growing up, and I was kind of her assistant 😄.
Fast forward to when I started working in the bank. At that time, I was looking for a way to shed the weight and be on the safer side, and that was how I started doing. I researched and looked at people who were doing this, I practised those methods, and I saw it working for me. Others saw my progress, and they were interested in also going through my coaching. This was how I started. I also went ahead to gain more knowledge and got certified as a health coach, which gave me a better opportunity to help people also get better with health issues.
You mentioned helping women manage weight and chronic conditions—what are some of the most common struggles you see?
1. I see people not knowing that lifestyle is a major determinant of their health, which is a big struggle.
2. I see people struggle with what to eat to help their health. Food is medicine, and when not used appropriately could worsen the situation.
3. I see people having this belief that chronic health issues run in the family, and so it's normal for them to also experience it.
4. I see people not ready to place priority on their health. Not knowing investment into their health is one of the best forms of investment that will pay for a lifetime.
What are some myths about “healthy living” that you would like to correct?
One common myth is people believing that healthy living is for those who want to lose weight. Not knowing that healthy living is the best preventive approach.
Another myth is that people believe it's something that will kill a man, and so how they live doesn't matter, not knowing that quality of life matters. You don't want to be alive and be dependent on people for your daily movements because you can't do things by yourself.
Another one is people believing that what they eat doesn't matter. Eating for satisfaction only and not for nourishment.
What inspired you to start Nature’s Delight Foods?
I got inspired while also transitioning into a healthy lifestyle. Seeing that most foods, especially the ones packaged in stores, are already highly processed, I began to produce some myself and for my family.
I saw how passionate I was and still am about creating healthy meals. This made me start producing so as to help busy professionals eat right, and it's been a great journey doing this.
One book or film that changed your perspective?
The Kitchen Table book
Books or heels or makeup?
Books
Can you mention a habit that keeps you grounded?
Being committed to my commitment, especially when it comes to my health.
What would success look like for you personally?
Being able to achieve my goals and visions and being all God wants me to be.
You are a mum, wife, entrepreneur, and coach. How do you manage these different roles?
For work, I don't relax. When it's time to work, I put in the work, and for the home, I try as much as possible to plan ahead, which helps me so well and also teach my daughters chores so I can delegate to them.
If you could mentor your younger self, what would you say?
You can be all you want to be. Don't let people's opinion of you become your reality. Keep striving and lean on God to guide you all the way.
